We are an evidence-based practice in Gosford, providing quality care for our Central Coast community for over 20 years.We are a highly experienced team of Physicians in the areas of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, and Endocrinology. Our team has multidisciplinary links and close links to the Central Coast Local Health District.

RESPIRATORY

A/Prof Raj Soni

Consultant Respiratory & Sleep Medicine Physician

MBBS, FRACP, PhD

Raj Soni trained at Guy's Hospital Medical School, London, UK. He worked at Guy's Hospital and then Addenbrooke's, Cambridge prior to moving to Australia in 1992. Raj completed specialist training in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Royal Prince Hospital, Sydney and completed his PhD at Sydney University.Raj moved to, and commenced working on, the Central Coast in late 1999. He is currently Senior Staff Specialist and Medical Director of the CCLHD Respiratory Investigation Units. Raj roles have included Head of Department and Director of Physician Training and examining for the FRACP. Raj has a long-term interest in Service Development and Training, particularly at the Registrar and Advanced Trainee level, at the local and State level.His clinical interests include lung cancer and screening, interstitial and occupational lung disease, complex asthma and evaluation of dyspnoea.

Dr Herman Lam

BSc, MBBS, FRACP

Consultant Respiratory & Sleep Medicine Physician

Dr Lam is a specialist in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine, with a particular interest in lung cancer and obstructive sleep apnoea. He is experienced in interventional pulmonology procedures including endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), thoracic ultrasound and indwelling pleural catheters, which aids in diagnosis, staging and management of lung and pleural cancers, as well as other non-malignant conditions.Dr Lam is a Staff Specialist Respiratory Physician at Gosford Hospital. He completed specialist training at Royal North Shore Hospital, Concord General Repatriation Hospital and Gosford Hospital.Dr Lam is fluent in English and Cantonese.

Dr Paul Roach

MBBS, BSc.(med), MA (Bioethics), MPH, FRACP

Consultant Respiratory & Sleep Medicine Physician

Dr Paul Roach attended the University of NSW, obtaining the qualifications of MBBS BSc (med) graduating with first class honours. He undertook respiratory and sleep training at Westmead and Prince of Wales Hospitals. After the completion of training, he worked at Prince of Wales Hospital initially and began work at Gosford Hospital in 2005. He is currently the Head of Department in Respiratory Medicine at Gosford Hospital and continues to work as a Respiratory Medicine Staff Specialist. Paul has completed further post graduate training in Bioethics, obtaining a Masters of Bioethics through Monash University and a Masters of Public Health through the University of NSW. These higher degrees have tied in with his interests of tuberculosis (TB) and the ethics of health resource allocation. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.In terms of clinical interests, he is the clinical lead of TB services on the Central Coast and maintains a strong interest in TB, atypical mycobacterial infections and community presentations to hospital with respiratory infections. He also has an interest in airways disease such as COPD/asthma but sees patients with a wide range of respiratory issues including interstitial lung disease and lung cancer.Outside of medicine, Paul enjoys travel, languages and keeping fit with cycling and walking.


ENDOCRINOLOGY

Dr Margaret Layton

Consultant Endocrinologist

MBBS, BMedSci, FRACP

Dr Margaret Layton trained in Tasmania and worked in the United Kingdom prior to working in Sydney where she completed her specialists training. After completing her fellowship she was involved in research into diabetes before moving to the Central Coast in 2000.She is currently Head of the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the Central Coast Local Health District. She has been involved in the development of the Osteoporosis Refracture Prevention Clinic on the Central Coast.Her sub-specialty interests include; diabetes, osteoporosis, thyroid disease and general endocrinology.

Dr Flavian Joseph

Consultant Endocrinologist

MB. BCh. BAO, MRCPI, FRACP

Dr Flavian Joseph is an Endocrinologist currently working at Gosford Hospital and Coastal Endocrinology. She is a graduate from the National University of Ireland, Galway and completed her Basic Specialist Training in Galway University Hospital before moving to Australia. Dr Joseph completed Endocrinology specialist training at the Gold Coast University Hospital (QLD), Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (QLD) and Toowoomba Hospital (QLD). She then moved to the Central Coast and has since been practicing in Gosford, NSW.Dr Joseph has a passion for treating endocrine disorders with a special interest in osteoporosis and metabolic health and is dedicated to providing the highest quality care to her patients. Dr Joseph stays up-to-date with the latest advancements in endocrinology by regularly attending conferences and continuing education courses. Dr Joseph is involved in both medical student and junior doctor education and research supervision and has been published in peer-reviewed journals. She was involved in a multicentre randomised control trial in the use of monoclonal antibodies in the treatment of Type 1 diabetes mellitus at Gold Coast Hospital.In her free time, Dr Joseph enjoys exercising and spending time with her young family.

Dr Dushyanthy Arumugam

Consultant Endocrinologist

B.Med, FRACP

Dr Dushyanthy Arumugam is a Staff Specialist at Gosford Hospital and VMO Endocrinologist at Northern Beaches Hospital.She completed her undergraduate medical degree at the University of Newcastle where she was awarded the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards student award for her final year project. She went on to do her Basic Physician Training at Concord Repatriation General Hospital before completing subspecialty training in Endocrinology at The Canberra Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals. She was admitted to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians as a Fellow in 2017. Following completion of her Endocrinology training in Australia, Dushy moved to the USA where she undertook research with the research groups of Dr Alice Levine and Dr Carol Levy at The Mount Sinai Hospital and later completed an Endocrinology Fellowship at Mount Sinai in New York City.Dushy has co-authored numerous publications including book chapters, basic science and clinical research projects. Over the course of her training and subsequent practice, she has gained extensive experience across the breadth of endocrine disorders including diabetes in pregnancy, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, thyroid disease, obesity, pituitary disorders, adrenal and bone and calcium disorders. She regularly attends complex case meetings, grand rounds and conferences to keep herself up to date with the latest advances in the field and the management of complex patients using the latest evidence based practice. She is committed to providing patient centred care.
